Snow Leopard Distribution
Thanx alot everybody for your kind words. Hope Suz and her Mom find peace and happiness in days to come. In my next post I will share my own two cats with you - their pics etc. Meanwhile I totally forgot to mention the geographical range of the beautiful Snow Leopard.
The Snow Leopard is found in mountain ranges in south and central Asia - encompassing a huge rugged terrain including twelve countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Tibet and Uzbekistan. The estimated population in wild is 4000-7000, with nearly 700 animals in captivity worldwide. Below is a table from Wikipedia showing the Snow Leopard's distribution country wise.

Wowie, there aren't furry many of them at all! But they sure have a big terrain. I think it would be fun to be a Mountain Cat!
Kittyhugs and purrs from MaoMao!
That's just amazing. China either has the best natural habitat for them or very good protection laws. Given the total estimated numbers, they seem to thrive there. How very sad that such a beautiful cat is in such dire straights and headed toward extinction.
I also commented on yesterday's post. Sorry I'm late getting to it.
So very sad that there are so few of the beautiful snow leopards left.
One can just hope the beans will come to their senses and treat their environment better. Which will of course help all species - including the beans - which they don't seem to understand!
Thanks for you enlighting informations!
Snow Leopards are such amazing cats. I hope they can make it.

Hello you oh so knowledgeable human. This is Karl with a question: I got chased by a Bobcat again (see my tomorrow Tuesday post) and was wondering if you could post something about these big bad cats. Why do they eat other cats? I know they do because it has happened to a friend of mine....
We are all CATS for Bastet's sake.
Regards

Sorry to shamelessly plug one of my books, but if you can do take a look at my Snowleopard book on my website. Cats have let me use their id to send you this message. Love the site and all the info and will link to you over next few weeks as I have to work on snowleopard page prepublication.
