Russian Blue is a shorthair domestic cat breed. It is a natural cat that is said to have originated from Archangel islands in Russia centuries ago. There it was highly valued for its lustrous fur and unique personality before it was brought over by sailors to Britain in the later half of nineteenth century. Formal recognition was received by the Russian Blue in coming years and soon it was found all over Europe, including Scandinavia where the cat had a slightly different physical appearance. In United States though formal breeding was undertaken nearly a century later, when breeders started crossing Scandinavian and British variants to produce the modern Russian Blue. As it has moved through time and places, Russian Blue has had several names including Archangel cat, Foreign Blue and Maltese.
A graceful animal, Russian Blue has a regal appearance. It has a long and sleek body, giving it a svelte look. Its lustrous double layered coat makes it stand out from other shorthair felines. The beautiful coat, that is quite dense, is seen only in blue color and has silver tipped hair that give it its sublime sheen. Head of the Russian Blue is often compared in shape to that of the mesmerizing cobra, with large widely spaced ears and bright round emerald eyes adding to the cat's charm. Prominent whisker pads give the face a sweet, smiling expression.
Owing to their beauty and elegance, Russian Blues have been used at times in creation of certain artificial breeds. Their traits are highly valued for inclusion in the gene pool of prospective breeds. They are also known to shed less than most cats and are quite suited to living with people who are allergic to feline fur. Many consider them to be a sort of hypoallergenic animal though there is some debate regarding this issue.
Russian Blues are very calm and gentle cats who get along well with all members of the family. They are not overly demanding or vocal and in fact produce a very soft sweet voice when they wish to communicate with others. Considered by some to be slightly less active than some other cat breeds, Russian Blues are still quite playful animals. They are somewhat timid though in presence of outsiders and are best suited to an indoor lifestyle. They are very fond of cleanliness and spend lots of time grooming themselves throughout the day. Above all these splendid cats are intelligent and caring beings who are sensitive and compassionate towards their humans, who shower them with affection in turn, for their love.

I wish I wasn't so allergic, cats are so beautiful.
A splendid cat indeed, the Russian Blue. They also enjoy catching rats and climbing up grapevines and a lot of brushing of their magnificent furs.
A wonderful cat, elegant, curius very tender , very clean . Since last Friady we got 4 months old Russian Blue and she is feeling comfortable already. She enjoys hugs and kisses. Incredible good manners. We are just lucky to have this beautiful cat.
My Russian Blue, Fred, is a wonderful cat. Spends his time sunning himself in the window. Likes to skeak up on me from behind and give me a nuzzle. Then, he walks away - such a tease!
My beautiful Russian blue cat is extremely intelligent and playful and constantly demands attention (although he can be lot of work and time in meeting his needs!). He can be quite vocal at times when he wants something. He sheds very little fur. Does not like to be left home alone for long periods of time so best suited to someone who works part time or works from home. Easily trained, my boy comes when called and can sit.
I had a russian blue who I found on the street lost here in Phoenix AZ. he was my loving companion and my "Cat Husband" for 10 years before cancer took him from me.I have and have had many cats over the years but he was more special than all of them. He was sweet and sensitive extremely compassionate and loving.Slept under the covers with his arm around my neck pulling me closer, nose to nose every night, little head on my arm.I miss him more everday instead of less. KarlosAKitty my kitty husband. they are a very special breed and anyone who has one is luckieer than they will ever know.
I have been intending to compose something like this on my site and you have given me a thought.
