Well you wouldn't believe what I stumbled across the other day - I was reading this National Geographic article about researchers in the field who are expressing themselves with their personal blogs now...and came across this wonderful site: Wildlifedirect.org. It has a number of blogs of people studying wild animals across Asia, Africa and South America, and capturing them on film. I mean - these are the people who are actually out there in the field - doing the research, taking photos and videos, collaring and tracking the wild animals and following them on a day-to-day basis. What can be more exciting for a wildlife lover than to read these blogs and interact with their authors - I commented on the Kilimanjaro Lion Conservation Project blog and the author responded on one of my posts.
So I've bookmarked the Wildlife Direct site and if you are passionate about nature and animals - then it's a worthwhile notion to visit this site daily, interact and maybe even donate to support their efforts: http://wildlifedirect.org.

So nice to see wildlife while it is still in the wild and not having to be in a zoo. Just yesterday though, I saw a poor frightened deer zig-zagging through the side of a very busy road. I don't know what happened to it, but it was headed into town, not away from it. I couldn't get to sleep last night because I kept seeing that vision of it trying to get away. ;(
We have so much wildlife at The Swamp and I often wonder how long it will be be before humans crowd them out of all their natural habitats.
Coincidentally I have just seen an item on the news about raptors being shot by cruel people here in the UK. I can't imagine why some people would do this. Many of the birds are rare or endangered species. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers yet more and more often I hear of cruelty to both wild and domestic animals.
